July 2026 Pastoral Message

Dear Church Family,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As we embark on the month of July, I would like to invite you to reflect on the precious freedom we enjoy. This year, we celebrate a milestone: the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. During our recent staff meeting, one of our team members asked, "How will you be spending this day? A barbecue? Fireworks? A family gathering?"

It brought back memories of my first year in the United States. I remember being invited to an American family’s home in New Jersey, enjoying a wonderful barbecue and watching the beautiful fireworks. At the time, I participated in the festivities without fully grasping the significance of the day. Later, I felt a sense of regret for celebrating without understanding the true meaning of Independence Day, so I began to study and learn its history.

Let us take a moment to reflect on this day together. The Fourth of July—Independence Day—marks the birth of American independence from the British Empire. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later, delegates from the thirteen colonies formally adopted the Declaration of Independence. While it was not designated as a federal holiday until 1938, celebrations have been a cherished tradition since the 18th century, dating back to the American Revolution.

The freedoms we enjoy today are the fruit of countless sacrifices and the dedication of many. As we celebrate, it is also fitting to consider how these values have impacted the world. I am personally reminded of how the commitment and sacrifice of Americans played a vital role in ensuring that my home country, Korea, could survive and eventually thrive in freedom. Truly, freedom is not free. Because of that support, I am here today, blessed to be part of this community and to serve you all.

Above all, as we celebrate this holiday, I hope and pray that we take this opportunity to reflect on the ultimate freedom given to us by Jesus Christ. Through His love and sacrifice, we are liberated from the bondage of sin and granted the hope of eternal life.

So, as we commemorate Independence Day, let us honor the efforts and sacrifices of those who came before us. Let us also reflect on how the light of freedom, once kindled here, continues to inspire others around the world to seek their own liberty. May this day remind us of our true freedom in Christ. May God’s grace and peace be with all of you, with this nation, and with all believers across the globe. Amen.

Sincerely,

Pastor Peter Lee
